Now that you are in, make sure you get all the details right. Read what the school sends you and make sure you meet all the requirements:
- Send matriculation forms and deposits back immediately.
- Be sure you meet any other deadlines or conditions.
- Fill out all forms provided by your school as soon as you accept the offer of admission.
Meet Prerequisites
Schools may ask you to take specific course work to address academic deficiencies before enrolling in an MBA program. Calculus, computing technology, and statistics are common prerequisite courses.
Keep in mind that prerequisites at most schools are a condition of enrollment. You might be admitted with the understanding that you will complete certain courses prior to the first term.
Make sure you do the following:
- Double-check any course work conditions or prerequisites you must complete before starting your program.
- Register for prerequisite courses early enough to complete all requirements in time to begin your program as planned.
Address Academic Weaknesses
Most graduate business programs have a significant quantitative element. Even if you are not required to complete any courses, consider classes or self-study in calculus, statistics, and economics. They can help strengthen weak quantitative skills. Taken early enough, they can also improve your application.
If you are wondering whether you need a refresher course, you probably do. The longer you have been out of school, the more likely you are to need some review. Be proactive. Do not wait until you are offered admission to take supplementary course work.
Try these resources:
- Visit the Store section of mba.com to learn about the Graduate Management Admission Council’s® interactive CD-ROM refresher courses in accounting, finance, and quantitative skills.
- Check with the school. Some business schools offer pre-MBA programs just before the start of the academic year, to help incoming students refresh skills they might not have used recently.
