The IR Prep Tool is a web-based tool and can be accessed from any computer, iPad or iPad Mini (iOS 7) with a licence key. The licence key will be received after purchase in a confirmation email or available in your mba.com account.
To activate your code, go to www.mba.com/ir-prep and click the [Sign in] button in the upper right corner and enter your license code to get started. You will also be required to enter your GMAC account credentials (created on mba.com) or to create an account if you do not have one.
Can I access IR Prep from a Mac or iPad?
Yes! The tool has been developed for a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 and is fully compatible with a large number of browsers – Firefox version 3.4 or higher, Internet Explorer 9 or higher, Safari version 6 or higher, and Chrome version 31.0.1650.63 or higher.
How long do I have access to the IR Prep Tool?
Your IR Prep Tool account will be active for six months from the date of activation (note that this is not the same as the date you bought access). After that date, you will no longer have access to the product but if you want to use the tool for longer, you can purchase an extension.
How do I extend my access for the IR Prep Tool?
After activating your access to the tool, you can purchase an additional three months access from the mba.com store. Once applied to your account, the extension pack will automatically extend your expiration date by another three months. You can purchase this extension pack at any time and apply it to your account.
How do I purchase and activate my extension pack?
To purchase the extension pack, visit the mba.com store and complete the purchase. You will receive access to a new licence code via your order confirmation email or in your mba.com account.
Once you have your code, go to mba.com/ir-prep and log in per usual. Then click on the “Account Settings” link at the bottom of the page. On this page you will be able to enter your extension pack licence code in the licence code box and click “Renew”. You will see a message to confirm that your extension pack has been activated.
If I update my profile information in IR Prep, will it update my mba.com (GMAC) account?
Updating your profile information in the IR Prep Tool will NOT update your GMAC account profile information; and updating your GMAC (mba.com) profile account information will not update your information in the IR Prep Tool. The only time we use information from your mba.com account is when you first access the IR Prep tool – we use information you have already supplied to pre-populate some of the data fields.
How is my session score calculated?
Scores will be calculated based on a combination of: difficulty level of question, answer, and time taken to answer correctly (in relation to the median time taken by examinees when the item was in the operational pool). Sessions are scored on a 10 – 100 scale.
If you see a session with a score of 0, this indicates that while you saw some questions, you did not answer any. We’ve given you a score of 0 to differentiate this from sessions where you answered questions.
Where do you get the benchmarking data?
Benchmarking provides you with a way of comparing your own performance on each question against two groups: everyone using the IR Prep tool and others considering the same program as you. The benchmarking data is based on how people responded to each question the very first time they answered it and the program(s) they indicated they were considering.
How does the way questions are shown in the IR Prep tool differ from the GMAT exam?
There are some minor differences between how questions are displayed in the IR Prep tool versus the GMAT exam. We’ve described them below and if you want to compare them yourself, take a look at an example of each of the four question types on mba.com or take a practice exam in the GMAT Official Starter Kit + Practice Exams 1 & 2 (Free).
- Graphics interpretation: in the IR Prep tool the graphic that you use to answer the question is displayed to the left of the question; in the GMAT exam, the graphic will be displayed above the question.
- Multi-source reasoning: in both the IR Prep tool and the GMAT exam, the information you need to answer the question will be shown on the left hand side of the screen. Click the tabs to reveal their content.
- Table analysis: in the IR Prep tool you can sort the contents of the table by clicking the small arrow next to the column heading text; in the exam you use a dropdown above the table to change the sort order.
- Two-part analysis: in the IR Prep tool, information required to answer the question is presented on the left of the screen; in the GMAT exam, the information is presented about the question.
