Questions About the GMAT Focus Edition
Why is the “GMAT Focus Edition” name being changed to the “GMAT Exam?”
The “GMAT Focus Edition” name served as a crucial distinction between it and the previous version of the GMAT while both were in the market in late 2023 and early 2024. Now with only one version of the exam available, we are transitioning back to using the "GMAT Exam" name from July 1 onward.
What is changing exactly?
The “GMAT Focus Edition” name will revert to the “GMAT Exam.” The only element of the GMAT Focus Edition that is changing is the name. The exam’s structure, content, scoring, and test features will remain the same. Additionally, the existing GMAT Focus Official Prep material will still be relevant.
Do business schools know about this change?
Yes. Business schools have been made aware of this change in advance.
I have not taken the GMAT yet, how will this affect me?
This change will not affect you. If you are currently in the business school application process, you may notice the “Focus Edition” branding removed from our websites, emails, social media, products, and more. You will also see similar updates in the registration process and testing experience.
I have already taken the GMAT Focus Edition, how will this affect me?
If you currently have a GMAT Focus Edition score, the exam name on your mba.com My Account page and Official Score Reports will be updated to “GMAT Exam (Focus Edition)” after July 1. Your score will still end in a 5. Rest assured, schools are aware of this change and understand how to interpret your exam score.
I have already taken the previous edition of the GMAT, how will this affect me?
If you have a score from the previous edition of the GMAT, the exam name on your mba.com My Account page and Official Score Reports will be labeled as “GMAT Exam (10th Edition)” to prevent confusion with the current exam. Your score will still end in a 0. Rest assured, schools are aware of this change and understand how to interpret your exam score.
What is the GMAT Exam (10th Edition)? Is there an 11th Edition?
The GMAT Exam (10th Edition) is the previous version of the test that was available between 2012 and 2024. Technically, the 11th Edition of the exam is the GMAT Focus Edition. However, we gave it a special name to emphasize its increased focus on relevant business skills.
Scores from the GMAT Exam (10th Edition) will continue to be valid for 5 years from your appointment date.

Prep and Score Report Questions
How long will GMAT™ Official Prep for the previous edition of the GMAT Exam, the GMAT Exam (10th Edition), be available for?
Purchasing GMAT Exam prep products will no longer be possible after January 31, 2024.
However, you will have access to any GMAT™ Official Prep products for the previous edition of the GMAT Exam that is available in your account through May 31, 2024.
You will continue to have access to any GMAT™ Focus Edition Official Prep available in your account, subject to the applicable product terms.
GMAT™ Focus Official Practice Exams: Can I take Practice Exams 1 and 2 more than once?
It is possible to retake exams but keep in mind that with each retake, there is a higher chance that the questions will be repeated. Additionally, seeing a question multiple times increases the likelihood of getting it right, so resetting the exam multiple times is not recommended.
GMAT™ Focus Official Practice Exams: Can I take Practice Exams 3-6 more than once?
You can reset Practice Exams 3-6 once.
GMAT™ Focus Official Practice Exams: How can I review my questions on the Score Report?
Click on each section tab to see more details regarding your performance in that section, including performance and timing on each question and performance by question type and skills. To get an overview of your performance, click on the chart view.
GMAT™ Focus Official Practice Exams: Can I take a practice exam on my phone?
No. We require that you launch all Practice Exams from a desktop or laptop browser to replicate your test day experience.
GMAT™ Focus Official Practice Exams: I repurchased the same practice exam product. Why is it not showing in my test portal?
To access a repurchased practice exam, you must use up all your attempts for the paid exam. For instance, if you buy a practice exam 5 twice, you must complete both attempts before the repurchased practice exam appears. Once you have completed all attempts for a practice exam, any newly purchased practice exam(s) will become available. However, if you repurchase the same exam, you may encounter some repeat questions.
I have purchased the GMAT™ Official Guide 2023-2024; why can't I find Multi-Source Reasoning, Two-Part Analysis, Graphics Interpretation, or Table Analysis questions in the book?
The additional Data Insights question types do not appear in the book due to the question rendering requirements needed for each type. Users must log in to the online question bank via mba.com to access these questions. To do so:
- Go to mba.com, create an account, or sign in with your existing mba.com credentials.
- Click the "Access GMAT Focus Official Prep" button on your my-account page. This will navigate you to the GMAT Official Practice user portal.
- Click on "Redeem Activation Code" at the top right of your My Learning dashboard.
- Enter your *Activation code, click continue, and confirm.
- Select "Study" to get started.
GMAT™ Focus Official Practice: Can I open the exam on multiple browser windows?
We do not recommend this as it could result in errors and does not simulate the actual test-taking experience.
