What are your responsibilities at work and how does your degree help you achieve them?
To be an advocate for the people I represent by proposing legislation, having legislation amended, and keeping the association apprised of any new laws and/or regulations that will impact our industry.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
The ability to form coalitions to lobby the New Jersey legislature to ensure proposed legislation has a positive impact on small business owners.
What do you enjoy least about what you do?
The 10-5-1 Rule. A lobbyist works to propose 10 pieces of legislation, 5 pieces of legislation receive sponsorship, and only 1 makes it to the governor’s desk for consideration.
Why did you choose this career?
It fit my personality and incorporated my love of politics.
Why did you choose to get an MBA?
I love to learn and felt in was the next logical step or my career path.
What was your first job post-MBA?
My current position.
What traits should someone have to be successful in your career?
Enjoy research, long hours, and an unpredictable schedule.
Traits to be successful in an MBA program:
Discipline, as well as organizational and time management skills.
What advice would you give someone considering an MBA?
Do not miss class. Take notes, form study groups, and network with classmates, faculty, and guest speakers.
When considering MBA Programs, what do you suggest prospective students look for?
Find a school that fits your personality. If you are not sure, look at the mission statement—if you agree with it then it is probably the school for you.
